The Top Five Hoaxes in SEO

Search engine optimisation or SEO is definitely gaining a lot of propaganda alongside with its popularity in the world of internet marketing.

Since search engine optimisation is an industry that runs online, a lot of information about it can be found. However, there is no guarantee that all of the information available is true and reliable. These pieces of information are usually found at discussion sites, blogs, and other interactive web communities.

A lot of misleading articles and guides about SEO are tormenting because people, especially those who do not have a good background in the industry, tend to believe the information written in these articles.

To give you an idea, here are the top five hoaxes in SEO that people should not believe:

Optimisation is a tactic to cheat the search engines

A lot of people who hire services for search engine optimisation thought that this is a tactic used to have good ranks in search engines. Although service providers give their clients the right information about search engine optimisation, clients would still think that the whole process is all about getting higher ranks at search engines.

People who would like to use the strategy of search engine optimization should inject in their minds that search engines are after the quality and the freshness of the contents of a website. Providing these search engines with quality contents is not a tactic to trick them.

PPC affects SEO

This hoax states that pay-per-click program or PPC can create an impact on the page rank of a website. There are also two variants of this hoax. The first one is that a website needs to spend money for a pay-per-click campaign in order to get good ranks in search engines. The second variant is that paid ads is considered as black hat SEO, giving the website a bad reputation on search engines.

The first one can be a good possibility because paying for ads can be compensated by having higher ranks at major search engines; however, this possibility is still a myth. Keep in mind that PPC does not affect SEO because the latter is about provision of relevant searches and quality contents.

Page ranks are stable

This is a common misinterpretation about SEO. People thought that once a good page ranks at major search engines are achieved, these ranks will be stable. Keep in mind that SEO is a continuous process and not just a one-time goal.

Most companies who use the method of SEO thought that they can maintain good page ranks for long. This misinterpretation is probably because companies lack knowledge about the process of search engine optimization.

These companies have established their websites yet they do not update their contents. They just pay for SEO services and after achieving good page ranks, they will cease the service.

Once you have decided to use the method of SEO to increase your site traffic, keep in mind that this will be continuous and for long term. SEO involves a lot of process of trial and errors; therefore, maintenance is highly required.

Your website should be submitted to search engines

This was true before; however, you need to know that submitting your website to smaller search engines is not a requirement.

There are a lot of search engines out there wherein your site can be submitted, though the indexing capabilities of these search engines are not as wide as major search engines.

If your service provider tells you that it is a requirement and that you need to pay for it, then you should have your doubts.

Search engine optimization is only a single process

There are a lot of articles available on the web that gives misleading information to people about the process of SEO. These articles would say that SEO only involves a single process. In reality, SEO has multiple processes needed to be successful in getting good page ranks. SEO involves a lot of trial and errors to see which method works. It does not stop on trying one process.

Service providers should inform their clients about the whole process of SEO and make them understand that this is a continuous process and involves a lot of approaches.
